Designing a Language Curriculum and Intervention Program
for Children with Autism using the VB-MAPP
The VB-MAPP is an assessment tool, curriculum guide, and skill tracking system that is designed for children with autism and other individuals who demonstrate language delays. In addition to an asss4essment of language, learning, and social skills, the program includes an assessment of 22 language and learning barriers (e.g., rote responding, scrolling, instructional control, defective mands) that may interfere with a childs learning. The VB-MAPP is based on B.F. Skinners (1957) analysis of verbal behavior, established developmental milestones, and research from the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
The first day of the workshop focuses on how to use the VB-MAPP to determine the specific language, learning and social needs of a child with autism or language delays, as well as the barriers that may affect a specific child. The second day will focus on designing and implementing an individualized intervention program based on the results of the VB-MAPP. Participants will learn some of the most recent intervention procedures for teaching mands, tacts, intraverbals, social interaction, and listener skills.
